Description

Exhibition: Shells, the geometry of the living
Before the mother-of-pearl there is the shell
Before the button, before the domino, before the lamp, before the vase, before the table, there is the shape.
Before the book, there is the imagination.

The Musée de la Nacre et de la Tabletterie presents a selection of exceptional shells from the most distant lands.

The exhibition "Shells: the geometry of the living" presented from April 2 to August 31, 2014 shows how seashells by their natural forms have influenced artists from the nineteenth century to nestle in the decorative arts, with rare and remarkable pieces by Emile Gallé, inventor of Art Nouveau.
In this exhibition, you will be able to appreciate how the shapes of the shell allow artists to renew their plastic and decorative vocabulary by illustrating the omnipresence of the idea of life and by posing the question of the model of nature.
The seashell also becomes an element of sculpture under the hands of Armelle Fabre. From the principles of form and rhythm discovered in seashells, she creates a face that is a real lesson in shapes and structures.
