Description
The manufacture of games and toys is at the very foundation of the tablet-making business in Méru.
From the 17th century, Hadancourt, the first craftsman in Méru specializing in the manufacture of checkerboards, drew in his wake a number of disciples who broadened the range of games made in the region. Lotos, chess pieces, quadrille game boxes make the reputation of these craftsmen.
The exhibition Once Upon a Time ... From Ancient Games to the World of Toys aims to go back in time with visitors, to transport them to the magical world of childhood. It will also make it possible to introduce today's creators by giving a prominent place to contemporary artists in this first section The Universe of Toys.
Thus, the Museum challenged nine creators specializing in making teddy bears and art dolls! Two directions were shown to them: the reverie of childhood and the magic of fairy tales. It's up to them to take advantage of the natural and tinted buttons from the Mercier house (Méru) that have been entrusted to them and to create a teddy bear or a doll as well as its universe especially for the occasion!
These unprecedented achievements will therefore be on display until May 28.
The old games, objects of the second part of this exhibition, in October 2017, have not been forgotten. A glimpse of the incredible pieces to come will already be visible in the first room of the museum, a magnificent retractable 19th century game table, lotos and even draughts.
